The Pharmacy Purchaser ensures the pharmacy is stocked with all needed pharmaceuticals. This role is responsible for the cost-effective purchase of pharmaceuticals, tracking and replenishing inventory. The Pharmacy Purchaser plays an integral role in managing purchasing procedures, purchasing inventory, controlling costs, and working with pharmaceutical vendors.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Places orders and handles routine purchase orders
- Reviews requisitions for SelectRx accurate ordering criteria before placing orders
- Initiates and implements quality improvement as it relates to purchasing
- Analyzes markets to determine vendor sources and product availability
- Remains cognizant of market fluctuations that impact prices
- Interviews and confers with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule
- Reviews and updates prices
- Prepares purchase orders and bid requests
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with users, vendors, and others to determine the source of the issue and identifies an appropriate corrective action
- Communicates changes that may affect operations to site operations teams
- Recommending updates to purchasing procedures
- Maintains confidentiality in dealing with all clients and company information
- Keep site in compliance with contractual arrangements between the organization and selected vendors committing funds up to authorized limits
- Working with manager to recommend changes or raise flags to anything possibly considered out of scope or out of compliance or out of business compliance
- Look for savings opportunities and working with manager and analytics to see if making that change is best overall move
Skills/Abilities:
- Service-oriented with a high degree of interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- High professional ethics and standards
- Experienced in Microsoft products, especially a basic understanding of Excel
- Ability to procure pharmaceuticals for the pharmacy
- Maintain interface with vendors to ensure the procurement of high-quality merchandise, expedient delivery, and dependable service at optimum price
- Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy software and reporting system
- Understand and maintain confidentiality regarding patient medications and illnesses (HIPAA)
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, associates, clients and the general public
- Ability to exhibit and command common curtesy, professionalism and respect when interacting with vendors and associates
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required
Education and Experience:
- Associates degree or equivalent required
- 2 years of experience in a related field or in a related area preferred
Certificates/Licenses/Registration
- Certified Pharmacy Technician licensure in Kansas (Not required right now but can be obtained upon start or role)
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer
