About the Role

The Compensation Specialist supports the day-to-day operations of the SelectQuote Compensation Program. Responsible for serving as a subject matter expert in the execution of compensation processes including evaluation of jobs, annual compensation cycle, bonus programs, position control and job description analysis.  Provides information, advice and counsel to HR and leaders on compensation issues, opportunities and questions.  

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Supports the day-to-day administration of compensation programs, helping drive fairness, equality, and consistency within the organization
  • Serves as a partner to business leaders, providing support in job description creation, market data analysis, job leveling, org design and internal equity.
  • Maintains accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the execution of compensation practices
  • Evaluates jobs; develops and maintains job descriptions and position control 
  • Supports the job requisition process
  • Benchmarks internal jobs to salary survey data and other market intelligence to determine salary ranges, geographical premiums, and market competitiveness
  • Assists with internal salary analysis on incumbents and candidates to ensure equity among peers, risk mitigation, and to resolve compensation challenges
  • Prepares and maintains job descriptions for each role within the organization; ensures job documentation accurately reflects duties and functions being performed by incumbents in the roles
  • Partners with leaders and associates to accurately determine duties, skills, and responsibilities required in each role; ensures consistency with job leveling and FLSA exemption
  • Identifies improvements to existing processes and procedures to drive excellence and efficiencies
  • Assists HR, other departments, leadership and senior leadership as needed

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational communication skills and conflict resolution techniques
  • Ability to be both proactive and flexible, with strong time management skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Education and Experience:  

  • 2-3 years of relevant HR experience required, 1 year compensation administration and analysis experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related business field preferred
  • Experience in a multi-state 500+ employee insurance, financial, or service industry office environment is desirable
  • Knowledge of federal laws and regulations related to the administration of compensation programs
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, including knowledge of vlookups and pivot tables
  • Knowledge of FLSA and labor laws
  • Ability to quickly navigate multiple HR systems and platforms, UKG Pro experience a plus

Physical Requirements: 

  • Work is performed indoors with potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to office work. Could periodically travel to other office and operational sites.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed.


Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan.

$75,000
Base Salary Maximum
$85,000
