The Director, Revenue Accounting leads the Senior and Auto and Home Insurance Divisions revenue accounting. The Director of Revenue Accounting would work directly with Revenue Operations as well as Finance organization to analyze and communicate results of the accounting for revenue, receivables, as well as related estimates. The Director of Revenue Accounting will supervise a Revenue Manager and a Senior Accountant, and will report to the Vice President of Revenue Management.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of 2 to 3 direct reports (Senior Accountants and Accounting Managers)
- Obtain a deep understanding of our ABS (“securitization”) structure and the required reporting
- Obtain a deep understanding of our revenue recognition model for Senior and Auto & Home Insurance Distribution divisions, including customer trends
- Maintain and update understanding and documentation of relevant revenue accounting systems, general ledger and securitization accounting systems, as well as customer contracts and an understanding of the impact of these contracts to expected revenue and revenue recognized
- Oversee the reconciliation of monthly revenue, accounts receivable and commissions receivable, as well as monthly journal entries
- Maintain and update documentation of the Company’s Senior & Auto/ Home Insurance Distribution revenue recognition policies, and any quarterly revenue recognition judgements and conclusions
- Manage the revenue accounting team and ensure adherence to monthly close objectives and timelines
- Coordinate with the Revenue Operations team and Finance to meet necessary monthly and quarterly objectives and research abnormalities
- Plan and manage timing of quarterly (or ad hoc as needed) revenue estimate updates and analysis, including coordination with Finance Operations
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting required under our Securitization structure
- Ensure SOX controls are performed as required, as well as consider enhancements or rationalization opportunities
- Challenge current processes and improve efficiency
- Participation with annual financial audit, including leadership in revenue work
- Special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong grasp of US GAAP particularly in the area of revenue recognition
- Ability to understand and work with complex systems and databases including knowledge of SQL
- Leadership and talent development
- Excellent time/ project management coupled with strong analytical problem solving and organizational skills
- Proficient in accounts receivable cash and revenue business process cycles
- Strong understanding of SOX requirements including risks and controls relevant to revenue and receivables
- Ability to read understand and digest customer contracts
- Detail oriented
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting finance or other related fields required
- Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting and complex financial systems or related experience required
- 5 years of experience leading high performing teams required
- Experience in an insurance industry a plus
- Possess an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and skills for managing large datasets, with understanding of SQL as a strong preference
Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed indoors with potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to office work. Could periodically travel to other office and operational sites. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
