About the Role

As a Senior User Researcher at SelectQuote you will be our expert practitioner responsible for executing high-impact research to enhance our direct-to-consumer insurance platforms. You are the team's first research specialist diving deep into our most challenging user experience problems to uncover the actionable "why" behind our analytics.

 

Your primary mission is to understand how users navigate the complex high-consideration process of shopping for insurance—from Medicare to Life and Auto. You will be the hands-on leader for critical studies owning the entire project lifecycle from scoping and methodology design to analysis and presentation. You will be responsible for tackling key initiatives such as identifying barriers in our quote-request funnel analyzing drivers of user trust and choice and structuring rigorous usability tests for a diverse user base that includes seniors.

 

Your direct partners will be Business Stakeholders Product Owners Designers and Engineers and your insights will provide the data-driven foundation for our product and CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization) strategy. This role is perfect for a hands-on rigorous researcher who loves tackling complex quantitative or mixed-methods problems that directly impact business growth and lead generation.

 

The advent of new AI technologies like Large Language Models is rapidly changing how we design and create user experiences including how we execute research. As such a sharp enthusiasm and aptitude to explore adopt and invent new methodologies and tooling is a must for this role. Additionally we are seeking a researcher who leans to the quant side because we believe new automations will gradually make qualitative methods a bit more hands-off and easier to scale. Ultimately we seek a researcher eager to help define future ways of working rather than being a recipient of them.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead Complex Research Projects: Independently design manage and execute end-to-end strategic research projects particularly those requiring strong quantitative analysis.
  • Apply Quantitative Expertise: Serve as the team's go-to expert for quantitative methods. This includes rigorous survey design statistical analysis A/B test analysis and analyzing behavioral/product analytics data.
  • Integrate Mixed-Methods: Complement your quantitative findings with qualitative methods (such as usability testing and in-depth interviews) to add the "why" to your "what" creating a holistic picture of our users.
  • Translate Data into Insights: Synthesize complex data from multiple sources—potentially leveraging AI-driven tools for large-scale analysis and pattern identification—into clear concise and actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with Product Teams: Collaborate closely with Product Managers Designers and Engineers to identify research needs share findings and directly influence roadmaps and design solutions focused on conversion user trust and task completion.
  • Develop and Deploy UX Metrics: Collaborate with stakeholders to define establish and track key UX metrics (e.g. task success perceived trust reduction in friction) to measure the impact of design and product improvements.
  • Explore New Methods: Rapidly embrace emerging research tools and platforms—including AI-powered analysis platforms and automation—applying them to your projects to increase efficiency and the quality of insights.

 

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Strong hands-on expertise in quantitative research methods including survey design sampling statistical analysis (e.g. t-tests ANOVA regression) and experimental design (A/B/n testing).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience collaborating closely with Product Managers Designers and Engineers to influence product decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex methods and findings to a non-technical audience.
  • A keen interest and/or hands-on experience with emerging research tools and platforms particularly those leveraging AI for tasks like qualitative data coding sentiment analysis or predictive modeling.

 

Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) required.
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics Economics Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Cognitive Psychology or a related field is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in applied User Experience Research or a related field with a strong user-centric focus.
  • A proven track record of independently leading complex mixed-methods research projects from start to finish and delivering impactful actionable insights.
  • Experience with qualitative research methods (e.g. usability testing user interviews) or demonstrated willingness and aptitude to quickly develop these skills.
  • A portfolio of past research that demonstrates your ability to handle complex quantitative data integrate qualitative insights and deliver clear recommendations.
  • Experience in e-commerce insurance FinTech or other high-consideration conversion-focused industries preferred.
  • Experience in e-commerce insurance financial services or other high-consideration conversion-focused industries preferred.
  • Experience analyzing user behavior through web analytics or product instrumentation data preferred.
  • Experience conducting research with seniors or other specialized demographics requiring accessible and inclusive design preferred.

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Work is performed indoors with potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to office work. Could periodically travel to other office and operational sites.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan.
